Ever since Jordan first pressed the accelerator pedal in anything with an engine, his father, Harry has always been right there. It was Harry who introduced Jordan to kart racing and who has been integral to every success and achievement throughout his son’s career.
Harry has been a mechanic almost since he left school. With an enormous wealth of experience from his work on everything from heavy plant machinery to racing cars, he is the ideal figure to guide and support Jordan as the two compete in British motor racing. After a short spell as a racing driver himself in the mid 70’s, highlighted by a first and a third place at Boyndie ‘Drome circuit near Banff, Harry went on to support his boss, John Walker in car racing before eventually residing to simply watching races as family life began to take over. This was all to change when Harry took Jordan to watch a kart race at Boyndie in late 1994...
After a few years of simply having fun with an old chassis and engine, the pair decided to take their hobby seriously in 1999 and formed a father-son team which was to grow and become a formidable force in both Scottish and British kart racing. After Jordan’s move to mini coopers in 2007 with the If motorsport team and Harry’s ‘behind the scenes’ role during the season, the pair re-formed their solo team in 2008 to tackle the challenges of car racing. The season proved a difficult one with bad luck and racing incidents depriving them of a serious championship shot. However, the team achieved their maiden racing car win at the Croft circuit in Yorkshire and hence proved their ability to win races had not been specific to karting.
Harry is Jordan’s Manager away from the circuit as well as his mechanic and race engineer on it. Overall, the father-son team has proven one of the most successful racing combinations of its kind and continues to impress, with the team always looking towards the next challenge.
“I can’t stress enough how important my dad is to me and how, without him, my dream of being a racing driver would never have come true. It means so much that not only is he such an amazing mechanic and race team manager for me, but also that he’s my dad. Thank you for everything, Dad!”
